Xbox Live - different account types

I'm finally going to get an Xbox 360 (USA) when the HDMI enabled version is out. But I have some questions about Xbox Live.

Right now I'm addicted to Halo 2 on my original Xbox. I've been using the cheap 2 month trial cards up until now. I notice on eBay that Xbox Live Gold accounts can be had fairly cheap, the thing is, these seem to be tied to a region (whyyy!)

Can I buy a nice cheap Xbox Live Gold card from a US seller, use it on my current American Xbox 1, then migrate that account to my American 360 when I get it later?

As far as I know Live subscription codes are not territory specific but Microsoft Points are.

Indeed, the last sub I bought was from a US seller, which I used with a UK account on a UK 360. If you shop around you should be able to find one year for less than £20.

Thanks, just bought one now for £25! Be nice to finally have a permanent Live account. The number of cheating idiots on Xlink was getting on my nerves.

Well, the code doesn't work. Will the Xbox 360-branded cards only work on a 360? Will the original Xbox reject them?

Yep, 360 only. The code expires June 30 so that's my deadline

Well, that's one less thing to buy when I get the 360.

It works the other way around though, Xbox 12 month codes are registered as 12 month Gold accounts on the 360.
