trouble connecting wirelessly with my xbox 360

Does anyone know if there is some thing you have to turn off through your computer to allow my 360 wireless adaptor to connect to my wireless broadband?

It sometimes registers the name of my network, yet doesn't connect through to the computer or xbox live when i click test connection on the console.

Despite my original question of distances of wireless connection, with people saying it works fine 10-12 metres through 2 walls and a celing, Mine is that aswell. Why won't it work?

I even tried windows connect now with the USB stick- when i plug it into the console it says that it will apply the update do you want to test connection with your computer or test with xbox live, it fails on the second thing down on both and doesn't seem to apply anything. I go back to my computer plug the USB stick back in and it says on the list of things i've set up a connection with as nothing.-nothing on the list.

If anyone has a solution to my 1 month problem or even if it's just an idea please say, as this is infurating me so much.

How strong is the signal when it reaches the 360?

Have you tried adding a USB extension cable onto the 360's wireless dongle and moving the adaptor closer to your router?

The signal had 1 red bar on the 360, yet i can connect with a laptop wirelessly in the same room. I'm not sure if moving the 360 wireless adaptor a bit would have that much of an affect as it would still be going through the same distance and walls etc.

The problem is that my dads friend set up our broadband when we first got it-He works for BT so it's all legit. And i'm not sure if he has maybe set something up to only allow the other 2 wireless conections to connect?

But i really can't see how others can connect through long distances yet mine can't?

XBox Live requires 3 ports for full open access. UDP/88 UDP/3074 and TCP/3074. Check in your router settings and make sure.

The distance thing doesn't apply to brick walls btw. I'm in an extension to my house with the original brick wall (i.e used to be outside) in between me and my router, making the signal strength crap.

Laptops tend to have better signals than most wireless adapters however as the antenna is essentially the whole screen. Try moving the 360 a bit closer to see if it makes a difference.

What is the make and model of your router? Hopefully we can help you out with instructions.

I've found by looking at my router that it's a Netgear DG834G. I clicked on the model number on the link bootmonster provided but don't have a clue what i should be doing or what i'm doing? Sorry.

Setting up the Netgear to talk to the 360's official adapter is quite straightforward. I have lots of help on this on my site

Its probably down to wireless security.

It sounds like your getting ip address failed, a typical security problem
