    PS3 Wireless Mic Help Needed!

Anybody help my boy out? See below:

I had a PSP Wifi MAX adapter. Online worked fine on my PSP (including mic).

In preparation for getting a PS3, I upgraded my AOL connection and received a free wireless router (Thomson Speedtouch 576v6).

I switched to the router and online worked fine, but the mic wouldn't work (couldn't speak or hear others). Problem also exists on the PS3.

I have paired my Bluetooth Headset (Sony Ericsson HBH-608) with the PS3 (via accessory settings) and this works fine (I can see that the mic is responding when I talk), but it doesn't work online. When playing Resistance, I can hear the headset beep when I go online, but it won't let me talk when I press 'L3' (and I can't hear others).

Have looked through various forums and threads and it appears that I need to open some ports on my router, but no matter what I try I can't seem to get it to work (although I could be doing something wrong). I assume I only need to open a port that relates to voice chat, as I have no problem playing online other than not being able to use my mic.

I've also seen some threads which suggest setting up a static IP Address - but I have no idea how to do this. Some threads state that the PS3 won't work with 'DHCP', although I don't know what this is either.

Ideally, I'm looking for someone who uses the same router and ISP as me and can guide me through the process. Other than that, I'm prepared to buy a new wireless router as long as I know it's compatible with AOL (most people I know who use a wireless router don't even know what ports are, and don't need to know because their 360/PS3 doesn't have the 'no mic' issue). So if anyone can recommend a router that they know works with AOL and the PS3, that would be helpful to.

You should be able to just forward the relevant ports to the PS3's IP address via the router's interface. The info you need regarding the ports can be found on the online manulas on the PS3 itself

The PS3 will work with both static and DHCP, although most people will probably use a static IP as it makes port forwarding easier

Im no expert, but i read somewhere that might need to have UPnP enabled on routers or things. Again, im no expert tho

not true, I have UPnP disabled on my router and it works fine for me. What does the PS3 network status say for the NAT setting. A NAT of 1 or 2 is best, 3 gives you the problems apparently. Mine was on 3 until I forwarded the relevant ports and now its on 2

I know where I read it now. Sony say in their online manual

If (UPnP) set to [Disable], communication with others may be restricted when using the voice / video chat feature or communication features of games.
They say it may or may not restrict.

To be honest mate I'm not sure. I just came across this when I was experiencing problems with my PS3 having dropouts from my wireless network. As UPnP is something that crops up in the PS3's network test results (saying disabled on mine, but router has enabled ), I just wanted to know what it was... thought it might of been helpful here.

I have it disabled on my router as it causes a wireless drop out for me (a know problem with this netgear router)

I will have to check the setting on the PS3 when I get in from work and see what its set too

The saga continues (man these PS3s look mighty tricky...)

                    From my mate:

Any chance of posting a quick update on the forum you set up?

I managed to find the relevant ports that I needed to open on my router which were specific to Resistance: Fall of Man. I successfully managed to open the ports, went online and the mic worked fine.

However, because these ports were specific to Resistance, the mic still doesn't work on other games i.e. Motorstorm.

So, I need help on doing either of the following:

a.) Finding out if there are 'generic' port/s for voice-chat on the Playstation Network that i can forward, which will enable voice chat on all games

                    or

b.) Finding out the specific port/s for Motorstorm so that I can activate the ports for that individual game.

If anyone knows the specific ports that I need to forward for either of the above, it would be greatly appreciated!
