Playing PS2 Games on PS3 with steering wheel question

As the PS3 arcade sticks don't currently work for playing PS2 games I was wondering if the situation is the same with USB steering wheels that were originally designed for the PS2.

I'm thinking of picking up Outrun 2SP, but only really if I can use a wheel with it so any advice would be appreciated.

If you check out the GT HD thread in the PS Network forum I'm sure someone there mentioned that they're using an 'old' PS2 USB wheel for that game, so it's supported on the PS3 definitely. But if memory serves, unless a controller has the 'PS' button it won't work for PS2 games, because you have to press it once the game starts up.

Yeah, I've seen around that PS2 USB wheels definitely work with a PS3, was just wondering about the backwards compatibility. I guess probably not because of the lack of PS button.

The Virtua Stick High Grade even has a PS Button but still doesn't work with PS1/2 games, so looks like this one might be a no, which is disappointing.

Hopefully it is something Sony can sort out in a firmware revision.

Do we know if PAL users with their software emulation are able to use USB connected controllers for backwards compatible games?

This site would suggest that Steering wheels should work
        • USB peripherals designed for PlayStation2 titles, including steering wheels and flight sticks, can now be used when playing PlayStation 2 games on the PS3 system. These include:
        More after the break:
        • Logitech Driving Force USB Steering Wheel
        • Logitech Driving Force Pro USB Steering Wheel
        • Logitech Driving Force EX USB Steering Wheel
        • HORI Flightstick2 USB Flight Stick
        • Logitech Flight Force USB Flight Stick
Just need someone to definitely confirm this is the case.
