Ridge Racer 7 friends question

Had my first go of online Ridge Racer 7 today.

However, I'm confused in how I set up someone as a friend in the game?
Do I do this within Ridge Racer or in the PS3 system.

How is it done as well?

Just started playing it and I'm enjoying it a lot more than I thought I would.

You can do it either way. If you have anybody on your friends list who plays it they will show up as friends in the game also.
