Finally got my 5.1 system set up and watched Batman Begins with the lady of the manor. Brilliant!

One question... does Sat/Cable TV output any 5.1? Also, am I able to output sat/cable tv through all my speaker, coz at the moment they're only coming out the front speakers.

If you have Sky, then yeh, you need to use the optical out socket on the back of it and set it up in the options to output as dolby digital.

Also, when watching programs, use the info button and it will say 'DD' if its in dolby digital obviously! :P

But if you dont have actual Sky, and its cable or something then I'm not 100% sure but I think they are the same.

If you don't have optical at all, then pro logic ii will give a pretty good effect on alot of stuff

sorted it. There was a couple of buttons on the remote that cycled through a load of audio modes to suit. Yeah I'm using optical leads.

Are most games mixed in 5.1 and the like? They don't seem to say on the boxes, like movies.

          Just tried Gears, twas meaty.

All 360 games have 5.1m, it was part of the spec that MS laid down years ago. I'm guessing the same on PS3.

I will need to check the sizes to make sure the yamaha will fit on the shelf.

I presume these can be mounted on stands. If not any similar recommendations.

This setup will be used for a modded xbox/dvd recorder, wii and virgin media if it supports it.

I don't know what that model is like but I got Sony HT-SF-1000 (No DVD player in it) and it is very good for me (apart from lack of input sockets for me and headphone socket)

So if the speakers and audio output are similar standard - it will be fine.

But you should buy a much better mid range amp and speakers package instead. ie Yahama / Pioneer / Denon / Sony

I have the Yamaha, but I bought it as a bundle from Pixmania for around 200 (in black), for the price paid I can not really fault it, I maybe would have forked out the extra 80 for the next one but did not need the features of the amp really. Sound quality I find to be great overall.

Well looks like it will be the yamaha package.

Can anyone confirm if these speakers are stand mountable and if so what stands ?

Found a sony system from a retailer in Glasgow(so not far to collect)which i really like the look off.

It says on the spec:Optical Audio Input(s)2 rear.

I take it this will let me connect the modded xbox via digital optical to this system.

What connection would be used for a ps3 ?
