    Dead Dreamcast?

    Hey,

Got a Japanese Dreamcast, put a new shell on it a while ago and it is also chipped and all was fine up until recently. I got it out (see F355 thread ) and, well, there's no picture. I hear the sound, game boots fine but there's just a black screen.

Chip is wired up correctly, everything else appears to be fastened down properly. Anyone had a similiar problem, fixable perhaps?

edit: Also, the leads are fine 'cos I tried them in other Dreamcasts. I like my Japanese DC though

Only time I've had that happen (no picture, but sound etc) was when I've changed the video lead while it was switched on. Probably unlikely you did that, but that's all I can think of, sorry

Ah yeah, I did think of that and tried a few leads. The composite leads does sweet Fanny Adams (I don't think my little portable TV does NTSC at all) so I tried another RGB lead, TV flickered a bit and sort of flashed up a picture breifly before going black so I guess it's just a dodgy connector (wiggle wiggle). I'll look into fixing it now I know it's not beyond repair. Lucky I have a few Dreamcasts spare!

there is a batch of 3rd party rgb cables for the dc out there that are actually not quite fitting in the console. you need to mess about and find how deep it needs to be inserted in the console for to give picture. it totally freaked me out when it happened to my dc but with a bit of patience you can probably get working without having to try to fix the dc.
