    PS3 display setup question.

Hey boys and girls, i have a question if you'd be so kind as to help me...

now i don't own a ps3 so forgive the stupid questions, i'm working blind (and miles away over the phone) here for a customer with one of our sets.

he's picked up a uk ps3 and a component cable so he can get some lovely hd action on the go (set has dvi rather than hdmi). now setting up the tv to pull through a component picture is fine, that's no problem... i'm wondering though, if he pops the component cable straight in, would it output a picture straight off or would he need to plug in a composite lead to set everything up first?

like the 360 when you're unplugging the video lead, does the console reset itself?

    cheers!

You have to put composite in first then choose component and I'm pretty sure you can unplug the cable with it on, will check now to make sure.

Yeah I can unplug my HDMI cable without the console resetting.

I plugged the component cable straight in with mine...

This was firmware 1.0 though, so maybe it's changed.
      Kept you waiting, huh?

My PAL PS3 has only ever been used with component, right from the start. No other cable has been used.

Fair enough, with HDMI you had to put the Composite in first.

Strange, I plugged my HDMI cable straight in on mine, didn't use the supplied composite at all.

Same here - it did take a while to recognise the HDMI though.

Popped HDMI straight in on mine, found it and auto detected my optimum Resolution immediately.

(Note I seem to recall from reading the manual that there is a way to reset the output option if the machine has been used previously and set to HDMI (or whatever) and you want to use component (or whatever). Hold the power button down till it gives you 5 beeps or something.)
