    Can't move tracks in iTunes?

I just d/l'd the latest update for iTunes, and now I cannot reorder/drag tracks. Is this correct or am I missing something?

    thanx.

what do you mean by reorder? if you're talking about tracks within playlists, click the first column and you should be fine, as it may be organising by artist/album/etc in which case you can't shuffle the tracks about.

just clutching at straws here - i haven't yet installed the latest one, see.

I mean actually moving tracks up and down within the main "Music" folder, where it shows everything you have on your PC. Before, if I wanted to swap track 1 and 2 around I used to just drag track 1 and place it under track 2. For instance, I used it to have The Small Faces, The Faces and Rod Stewart tracks all grouped together, and now I cannot do it anymore. It sucks, why have they done this.

Try changing the header (i.e. artist, album) as some headers don't allow you to alter track order but I think some do (album won't let you, but arrange by artist and you should be able to [I think])

yeah that's what i meant, but being without itunes i was talking blind.

ok i've got itunes 6 here (dl'ing the latest while i type) and it won't let me move them about (i.e. change the order) as it only sorts according to the columns (artist, album, etc).

i made a blank playlist, dragged the music into it, and even then it won't, as it's still sorting by artist. you'll notice in the playlist's columns though, the left-most one has numbers in it. if you click that column to sort by number, you can then move the tracks about within the playlist which sounds to me like what you're trying to do.

i've had a look at the available columns when in library view (showing all your music) and there isn't the numbered one, so are you sure in the old version you were doing this within the main library list and not a playlist?

i guess as a sort of temporary solution you could make a blank playlist and drag all your music into it and then it'll let you fiddle around

If I uninstall iTunes will I lose all my tracks? I'll give it a try if not. Deffo could move my tracks before, as now a 4-disc album is in the order of 2, 3, 1, 4, and it was 1, 2, 3, 4 as I had to adjust it manually, but I can't anymore.

if you have all the music in a folder on your computer it would be just a matter of add folder to library and they would all be back again

just depends on how extensive your library is and how many songs you have on playlists etc

i've only got a 2gb nano, so it wasnt any great shakes

but if you have a 40gb one loaded with music then i guess it might be a nightmare

I only have my tracks in the main folder, and then I transfer them to the iPod every now and again when I fancy a change. So I need to move all the tracks into a separate folder somewhere, then re-install, then import all the tracks back into iTunes right? I too am computer (il)literate see.

when you first put a song into your itunes it will register a path (the old computer tree architecture) if you've removed it from where the computer thinks it is you will get an exclamation mark beside the song on your itunes display with a warning saying it cant find the song and then asking you to browse

i've just got a folder called mp3 on my computer and i have all my songs in that, only around 1gb

go to File then Export Library, save the xml file somewhere and uninstall. when you reinstall, just go to File then Import and it'll put everything back
