    Sega Classics Collection (PS2)

    1. Is it any good?

    2. Is the PAL version equipped with a 60Hz mode?

It's worth it for Virtua Racing, but the rest is dire.

I dont have the PAL version so cant sadly comment on the 60hz mode. However I will back up Shakey_Jake33's comments that the other games in the set bar VR are bad.

I have a Japanese PS3 and brought VR seperately on the sega ages 2500 label and its the best port yet. Its not totally arcade perfect though as instead of porting the game to PS2 which could do model 1 easy they have instead had the PS2 emulate model 1 which does not work proper. Some of the finer details are missing but unless you played the arcade game an awful lot like me you really wont notice the difference.

Side note for value for money I still think the 32X port is great as it looks like the arcade and had more things to do.

I have the pal version, and to the best of my memory I think it does not have a 60hz option for any of the games. I will check this out when I'm back home (at work right now).

The PAL version doesn't have a 60hz mode, and unlike the US version is missing out Alien Syndrome for some bizarre reason. Virtua Racing runs full screen but everything else has borders like the 1st wave of PS2 games back in 2001.

As to whether it's any good, there is some fun to be had but not as much as you might expect. You should be able to pick it up for a tenner or much less so it's worth taking the risk to appease your curiosity.

I hope they do a 2nd compilation with the Treasure pack & Panzer Dragoon & Wonderboy on it but I seriously doubt that will happen.

The wonderboy pack is great. In Japan its called Sega Ages 2500 Vol. 29: Monster World Complete Collection. There are loads of options too and extra content and the manual is a great big art book.

Alien Syndrome is not on the UK version so Sega could get a lower pegi rating.

I so badly wish that Wonderboy comp was out over here, it's one of my fave series of games.

As for the Alien Syndrome info, I didn't know that. Is that the same reason Shadow Dancer was excluded from the Sega Megadrive Collection?

I'll buy it for Virtua Racing then, the pack has to be worth the fiver asking price for that alone.

VR is well worth a fiver.

Its a shame the Wonderboy set has never come to the west as its an amazing retro collection. From about sega ages 16 onwards when Sega themselves took over the Sega Ages collections they have been great with loads of bonus features and big manuals fill of artwork.

Im not sure of the Pegi rating of the Sega Mega Drive collection but if its anything below 16+ then thats the reason I bet.
