MGS2 problem

I started playing MGS2 today on a PAL PS2 and for some reason the game always starts on the Big shell mission. It's been a while since i've played the PAL version game but it's supposed to start on the tanker mission, right?

Err... No. Apparently it depends on the options you choose at the beginning. I think the game asks you some questions like "is this your first MGS game" etc. In lieu of someone giving you a fuller answer, try checking out gamefaqs.

choose something like i never played metal gear before and you get to play on the tanker

I think it was just a disc error because I took the disc out, cleaned it and now it works fine, starting on the tanker mission when I choose the first option (which it didn't before).

I didn't know about the options changing the start point, I thought they just changed the difficulty. It's bizarre that Konami would do that, considering some people would miss a big part of the game.

People wouldn't miss that part of the game. When you complete whichever part comes first it goes to the other part.
