    Ps3 PAL questions.....

Ok, My boss, as an end of year present, said I can have a PS3.

Now, I wasnt gonna get one anytime soon, and would rather have the cash.

But, as its a present, I cant be cheeky, so will be getting it 2moro.

Now, as its a Blue ray player, I would be best to get a pal machine so that I can rent and buy future Blue Ray releases, and also (and most important) if the PAL PS3 can play US games then thats all I want it to do, and would make it easier to sell/swap games in the future.

    So questions are....

Is the PAL PS3 capable of playing US/JAP PS3 games, as if so this would sell me a PAL System.

Are there any issure with a PAL ps3 that would prompt me to go NTSC??

And, I also have a decent Panasonic Plasma TV as I read on here that the region loock out only applies to peeps using std definition??

    cheers

1 - Yes it "currently" plays all region games

2 - The emotion chip has been removed from PAL machines but also rumoured to be removed from newer NTSC machines

    3 - Correct

Is a little odd that mate. Why does it bother you so much?

The search functions on these forums is pretty mug anyway. Much more fun to start threads willy nilly.

Sorry, excuse the ignorance, but which regional lock-out does having a HDTV disable?

Games or BD-movies? Or am I getting the wrong end of the stick?

                      *Edit*-ignore me, I've sussed it!

Hmmmn.... if it was a stupid question, then I'm still stupid.

The PS3 FAQ posts says this, tho':
There have been reports of the odd game not working though, however, this is belived to be attributed to a problem displaying PAL/NTSC signals via a Standard Definition TV.
Presumably that's what being referred to?

                        Stroller.

hmm, my SD tv has always displayed PAL or NTSC , no problem.

so is it region locked on SD .. or not?

                            Hi.

I want to say in advance, sorry to Juha, I sould of just said sorry for doing nothing wrong.

And yeah, I dd use the PS3 Q=A's page but it was based on a NTSC machine, my probl is with using a PAL machine and I know sometimes there are differences! So I wanted to clear it all up.

Anyway, I think I am getting the cash as a bonus instead so I think I wont be getting one until the end of year as I have a 360 and a Wii to keep me oing.

thanks for the answers though, and it seems that if region lockout isnt a real issue it makes getting a PAL PS3 seem ok!!

Absolutely... tried most NTSC PS3 games on a PAL PS2, and had no issues, even with an (NTSC capable) SDTV. I absolutely love the fact Sony is "opening" a bit their new new systems... I have yet to try Linux installation on this console, but it sounds awesome.
