Remote Play - European PS3 won't talk to American PSP...

    Hello!

I have a PAL PS3 and a North American PSP. I tried connecting them, following all the steps in the official and unofficial FAQs. Anyhow, the PS3 isn't recognizing the PSP as a PSP - I suppose this is because of the different regions of the consoles.

    Anybody else tried this?

    Thank you.

    Hi,

I have a UK PS3 and a US PSP and this worked for me OK.
Have you got firmware 3.30 on your PSP because you need that for it to work apperently.

      doodledude, thanks for the reply.

Yes, the firmware was fine, but apparently all the tutorials I followed were missing some step.

I found another tutorial which included a couple more steps and checks and now it seems to work! I wanted to post a link, but I was on another PC and now I cannot remember or find on google the website... should I find it I will let you know.

In any case, I guess it had something to do with the SSID not being properly set (even though it seems strange - what does this have to do with the registration via USB?).

Good, glad you got it working.
I was pretty impressed with being able to play my music anywhere around the house hosted from my PS3. The video quality could be better though, hopefully it'll improve in future updates.

If you've downgraded it, and been using hacked firmwares, it can damage the part that essentially tells the PS3 that it's a PSP when you hook it up over USB. Depending on the downgrader used, this can be permanent.

You should still be able to set remote play up manually though, and there are programs that can try to fix your PSP (it depends what downgrader you used) but they have a good chance of bricking the PSP too.

Andrew, I never used homebrew firmware on this PSP, even though I admit I was going to try it in case it could have solved this issue.

Doodledude, I was also very impressed... and we can just start imagining what developers could do with remote play - what about using the PSP as the codec in future Metal Gear games?

I think we could see an improvement in video quality if they come out with a new encoding system.

Anyhow, thanks all for the help and for taking the time to answer! As soon as I find the link I used I will post it here (or paste its content, in case we cannot link to external sites).

            Thanks!
