    Dumb PC question >_<

Very dumb, but do laptop screens give off radiation like CRT monitors do? Just because I now use a laptop at work, and it would be comforting to think I wasn't going to get brain cancer off it

Same question in regards flatscreen monitors as well.

A CRT is shooting a beam of high speed electrons at you (attenuated by the screen itself).

    A TFT merely emits light.

Told you I was dumb. Thanks for the reply.

Backlit LCD displays can emit significant levels of both magnetic fields and electric fields (though not to the levels of CRTs). They certainly aren't emmisions free as some places will have you believe, anything that uses electicity will emit electromagnetic radiation to some degree.

I don't expect to be getting cancer of the Iris from having used CRTs for the last 20 years though - it could make a good litigation if I did

        Regards

But general electronic devices, including TFTs, will not have the radiation produced by the beam. I think that was the point in question.

They all produce EMR - just with 22KV on a tube, it tends to be a bit higher, and the frequencies of the EMR will differ.

I'd be interested to see what those levels were, you probably get more harm from being in the sun for an hour than infront of the TV radiation wise.

            Regards

Course, otherwise we'd not see it

I think the fact that it's higher frequency radiation is what Treble was looking for.
