    PS3 NAT Type help

I'm not sure if this has been covered before, but I can't find it if it has. Anyway my internet went down for a while this evening. It's just came back on, but now my PS3 shows its NAT Type as 3. It used to be Type 2. I'm getting the "voice communications may be affected" message now. Is there any way I can fix this? My ISP is Bulldog and I have a Netgear DG834G. I have the latest firmware too. I've never had this problem before, so I'd apreciate any help.
    Kept you waiting, huh?

Have you forwared any ports on your router? This will solve your NAT problem. You could put the PS3's ip in the DMZ of the router which would also cure this

I'm not very computer lliterate. Port forwarding scares the hell out of me, but I could probably tackle the DMZ thing. How do I go about doinig it? What is DMZ too?

DMZ is basically outside of your routers firewall. All you need to do is get the IP address of your PS3 and set to be the DMZ ip address on your router

I use DMZ for my 360 but use port forwarding on my PS3

Right-o I've found out how to do the DMZ thing. Now I just need to find out the PS3's ip address. How do I do that? I'm guessing it's somewhere in the network settings?

Also is there a reason for the NAT Type to suddenly change? What makes it happen?

JOe go into the PS3's network settings and pick an IP address for the system. It should be something like 192.168.0.xx. Have a look in the router status page for all the connections it has and pick a different number to any of the other items listed there.
Stick the same number you typed in on the PS3 in the DMZ on the router.

Went back to type 2 when I did it.

You should be aware that any device you put in the DMZ is internet facing and will not have any of the protection that being behind a NAT router/firewall offers. I'm not saying it is wrong or you shouldn't do it but thought you should be aware.

It's really only an issue if you're using a Windows box DMZ'ed though.
