How valuable are back issues of magazines?

My room is beginning to fall apart with Edge, GamesTM and Retro Gamers.

I've been keeping my Edges on the assumption that they might be worth something some day (I remember an Issue 1 going for ?150 at one stage).

However, a quick scoot on ebay shows that not only my magaizines, but even older mags from the 90s and 80s are not really worth much.

The older Retro Gamers are worth a few quid potentially it seems, but that's it.

What do you guys do with your magazines? At the moment, I'm tempted to dump my more recent Edge magazines, or at least put them in the attic.

Not very surprisingly, unless it was a popular magazine and aside from the first couple of issues, not much value sadly.

It ebbs and flows. Typically ongoing ones like Edge will retain their value better than single format ones that inevitably only last a few years, for obvious reasons. I've got a complete set of N64 Magazine and at one point you could get ?50 for issue one of that alone. Now it's probably a few quid at most.

One thing to look out for is rare covers. That issue of Edge where they had a load of special covers themed on certain games (issue 100?) still goes quite well, especially if you have the rare Tetris cover. I forget exactly how much it went for but my mate made a nice profit on his when he sold it.

I had ten years worth of old Edge mags lying around the house a couple of years ago and swapped them for a couple of GC games.
The cost of the postage for the new owner was silly. You just don't realise how much all those mags weigh.

The Animal Crossing and Okami covers from gamesTM are worth a bob or two. The former, especially, had a very low print run.

I've got a few 1st issues of stuff like Playstation Plus & Megatech, plus a special mag the Official PS Mag did on Final Fantay 8.

I doubt I'd get anything for them though

I just think that old/new videogames/vg related stuff aint worth **** anymore, especially when u try to flog it on eBay.

Speaking of which, I have a whole box of random Edges circa 95-99 lying around. I was just about to take it to the dump. Anyone want?

I've still got one of the Animal Crossing issues I bought around here... people were having trouble finding it and I discovered a bundle of them at the local HMV heh... so hence sold them on.

I got around ?40 before p&p for the 1st eleven issues of Edge a few weeks back and was happy enough with that. The rest went in a recycling bin ages ago.

The only gaming ones I''ve kept are all the Super Play magazines to go with my SNES collection. They don't take up much room fortunately.

I dumped my entire (complete) collection of EDGE mags in the skip when I was moving house about a year ago. They weighed a freakin ton, 150 odd copies, god knows how much they would have cost to ship if i'd have flogged/given them away.

I've still got some copies of Mean Machines and Super Play in the loft(including the 1st issues of each), dunno how much they're worth now.

Moving house tomorrow and i have literally threw away, offical ps2, nintendo mags, Edge and Games TM's mags ahoy.
Only ones I kept were the edge Retro issue 1, edge issue 1 and Games TM issue 1 all the rest are now binned.
Felt quiet nice to let go really, I seriously couldnt remember the last time I sat down and read them.

Actually it was the other way round. Subscribers neve recieved their copies, but the shops got them. Four variant covers, one for each season.

A pity that they not worth much, as magazines used to be such an important aspect of gaming.

I have found memories of Zzap, Mean Machines, (old) CVG, Megatech, early Edge.

I think GamesTm is still an excellent magazine today, and Retro Gamer surely deserves an award.
