PS3 Component with a PS2

I know that the PS2 leads can be used with a PS3. Now I would imagine that this means I can use a PS3 component cable with a PS2, but can anyone confirm this?

Yeah they're 100% compatible.

The packaging for the PS3 component lead also states that it works on both.
