i heard that thr japanese version of this was reprogrammed by sega and has more features than the xbox game?

There is a progressive scan option and the CD you get is very good but it might be out of print now.

How do you set the progressive scan option + do you know where the widescreen function is too?

I can't find the widescreen function either. However I know how to get the progressive scan function. The first option when you turn the game on select the second option. It has lots of Japanese text and the number counts downs down from 15. Pick the second option.
