HDMI (do i need an adaptor) Audio out cable?

I've ordered a ps3 from play which should be here soon going by how play usually ship to me.

I'm uncertain about hdmi, i read that some come with an adaptor which is confusing me, my HDTV is a samsung q7 series and above the correct port on tv it says HDMI/DVI IN...anyone know if the cable will go straight in?

I'm pretty new to all this and have used component and vga with this set and they both have had audio out cables..has the or does the HDMI need one and if so do i need to buy anything else or is it on the cable?

    Thank you.

The HDMI port is a standard, so you should be fine. Little confused by the 'HDMI/DVI IN' port though, because they're physically different.

One note though, the PS3 doesn't come with an HDMI cable. You'll need to buy one.

Thank you N45, it looks like that.

No need for audio cables then?

          Thanks again.

Audio is carried through HDMI, so you'll be fine if you're using your TV. If you have a separate amp that's not HDMI-capable, the PS3 has a separate optical audio out. So a standard TOSLINK cable will do for that.

DVI is HDMI without the audio, so a lot of manufacturers "double up" on them.

You might find that the HDMI socket has a DVI port right next to it and that this is the same channel on the remote (so you can only use one of the ports at once).

Also, you can get DVI to HDMI cables very cheaply, and this is a suitable way to get the output of your PC's video card to your telly. But the DVI connector of your video card doesn't carry sound, so the telly manufacturer may alternatively have put an audio socket next to the HDMI one and labelled them together "DVI in" for this reason.
