I am seriously thinking of getting an xbox so I can box up my snes and maybe saturn too. My question is: is the snes, megadrive and arcade emulation really that good, would I notice any difference between say smw on my snes and on an xbox or what is the difference between xmen vs streetfighter on the saturn and the xbox. thanks in advance.

I've only been using the arcade and Megadrive emus. The MD emus are almost perfect, just that a couple of games didnt run, either due to corrupt roms or the emu not supporting them yet. Final Burn is excellent, all the SF and Vs games run perfectly. So I think that you'll be able to pack up your saturn and Megadrive
I'm also sure that the Snes emu's are excellent as a lot of people have been talking about them
N64 emulation is still in its early stages, Mario 64 plays almost perfectly so it's all gravy, but it'll be a while before we see Goldeneye etc. running well

Originally posted by probeatergoldeneye plays perfectly now, of the top of my head so does mariokart, zelda oot, mario64, mario kart and starfox64. There are some other games that play perfectly/near perfectly but I can't think of them at the moment.
If I can find a way to connect my N64 controllers to my Xbox I may pack up my N64 or stick it in the attic

I downloaded UltraXLE v1.0b and first impressions are sweet. The GUI is a lot nicer than project 64's, simple but nice and effective. It seemed to run Mariokart a lot better and Mario 64 works fine, so it seems pretty decent, dont have any more roms to try as I'm on 56k atm and its a bit of a mission downloading them

Thought I would just ask here instead of starting a new thread. If a dvd full of roms and an emulator has been set up to play directly from the dvd, is it still possible to install the contents of it onto the hard drive so i can play the roms from there? Also, can you only install emulators on the extra F partition of the xbox hard drive or can I install it on the main part. Finally can it be done without FTP'ing?

Yes you can copy them over to you HDD. If you've installed a larger HDD then go for your F Partition. If not then you can use your E Partition but keep in mind that is is where the XBOX saves your game save files. Therefore its best to check how much free space you have before you copy any files across. You do not want to fill this partition up.
You can install the Emu's and roms by using Boxplorer but this obviously needs to be installed on your XBOX first anyway. If you haven't got it then you will need to FTP everything over.

xsnes is 99% identical to a real snes only with a very very slight screen ripple effect until you perfect your screen stretching. stretching starfox to full screen looks really nice compared to its mega borders. smw is perfect aswell much better than on a pc for me. iv always had fps issues on pc snes emus no matter what cpu but the xbox doesnt have any (issues) at all.
ps an s-pad is essential else dont bother.
