Progressive scan on UK GC with Freeloader - possible?

    Hi everyone,

I own a UK Gamecube owner with a digital out, which I am running through an official Nintendo component video cable to an LCD HD TV. I am looking into the possibility of getting US games running in progressive scan (obviously the ones which are compatible with this feature).

I heard a rumour that it is possible to get compatible US games running in progressive scan through a component cable from a UK PAL Gamecube using a Freeloader. Has anyone managed this?

Also, as this would require me to buy US versions of games I already own, would saved games from a UK version of a game be accessible from a US copy of the same game? (I'm not holding out much hope for this since PS2 games saves aren't interchageable, but it would be nice to keep unlocked features etc)

You can run games in Progressive Scan on a UK GameCube, but this is limited to US/Japanese games (assuming the game has the mode). It's not the hardware that limits it, it's simply the fact that the mode has been physically removed on PAL software.

      I'm afraid not.
I had to re-complete resident evil 4, soul calibur 2 etc the long way.

Are there actually that many US/JAP GC games which have the prog scan option?

            Most do, generally.

Is it not worth just buying an NTSC cube? They must be dirt cheap now probably less than you paid for the component cable.
The QOOB chips can 'force' prog scan' on most NTSC games and about 50% of PAL ones which is another option which would alleviate the need to re-buy all your games (the ones that can be forced to 480p anyway).

Interesting, thanks for the link - I recently imported US NTSC MGS: The Twin Snakes primarily because it runs at 60Hz, an option which was deleted from the PAL version for some reason, I had no idea it supported prog scan too but I've just checked the manual and it does.

But can it be enabled when using Freeloader? When I tried it previously I did note that the usual GC load screen doesn't appear so whether holding down the B button will bring it up or not I guess I'll have to try.

If you install Qoob modchip into your European Gamecube, you can force any Gamecube game into progressive mode. Chip is extremely easy to install (only two wires), and allows you also play imports without Freeloader.

EDIT: Didn't notice Smouty's post, sorry.

Yes, holding B will bring the prog scan option if the game supports it.
