So, I use iTunes to manage my music (hey, no laughing at the back) and while it also includes a 'Movies' library, playback is completely rubbish and impractical (e.g., hovering over the playback window animates the controls halving the video frame rate -- this on a 4ghz system with 4gig ram, SLI setup). WMP is also interesting in that it randomly throws an unhandled exception with certain video codecs, playback also has annoyances where some videos can't 'fast-forward' (e.g., select thirty seconds in), skipping between beginning and end of the clip. Both have an annoying habit of displaying large thumbnails of an interesting frame in the video too rather than something more appealing to me; I can't seem to configure it. Ideally I just want a simple ordered list like I do with music, able to view more than the five or so they show now.
Any recommendations for alternative software that will not only manage my video library (a bonus if I can add metadata to video) but provide a decent level of playback for multiple video formats (e.g., VLC kind of control would be wicked)? Pretty much spoilt for choice when it comes to music but does the same exist for video?
