Anyone had a chance to play this yet? I've heard it's esentially Pawafuru Puroyakyu, just with normal graphics. Anyone here got a copy they can tell me a bit more about?

This arrived first thing this morning and what can I say, apart from IT'S BRILLIANT!!!'
Anyone who has played Pawafuru Puroyakyu 1 to 13 will be able to jump right into a game, with the controls being exactly the same. For beginners, there is a practice mode, where you have to do a certain amount of line drive's, fly balls to right field, bunts etc..
The beauty of this game is that it's so so simple to play. When you're up on the plate, you have the strike zone(an area roughly the width of home plate and the height between the batters knee's and his waist) indicated by a box that is split into a grid of 9 boxes. Some of the boxes will be blue, others red. The darkness of these boxes indicates how proficient your batter is at hitting a ball in that part of the zone, red being a weak area and dark blue being somewhere he will usually be able to get on base. Pressing R1 will reduce the contact area on your bat, making it harder to hit the ball, but also giving you more power.
Once you manage to get a man on base, the running is the best method I've found in any game. Triangle to run to next base, circle to return. Hold both down to stay still, as if you go too far and the batter is caught out, you can still be tagged at your previous base.
Pitching is just a dream as well. Before pitching, you get to choose the type of ball to throw using the left stick. Once that is selected, press X to confirm. You then move the pitching mark to where you want the pitch to go and a circle surrounds the target, getting quickly smaller. Press X again as it gets to the smallest point and you will perform the best possible pitch of that type.
Fielding is easy too. Once your fielder has the ball, each of the action buttons throws to a base. Circle for first, triangle for second, square for third and X for the home plate.
Seriously, I'd recommend this to anyone who's considered getting a PS3 baseball game. Yes, it may have shedloads of Japanese text, but once you get into it, you'll find it's the best baseball game ever made, both graphically, aurally and gameplay wise. It may be easy to pick up, but I can tell you it's NOT easy to put down!
If you see this for ?20 or so, buy it as it will be money well spent.

Is there lots of Japanese text?
It's all in Japanese, but there are also a lot of symbols in the options that give you a good idea of what it what. I may write up a menu translation if anyone else decides to pick it up and needs it?Last edited by MonkeyJuggleDX; 12-07-2007, 11:32.

LOL! I was considering that copy until I got mine slightly cheaper.
Just been playing for a couple of hours as the gf woke me when she stumbled in wasted at 4am and I'm loving it even more!
I worked out how to get homers now, as before I was scraping loads of doubles and singles(which I still prefer as it makes the pitcher work more). If you press R1 your hit box becomes smaller, but more powerful. Time your swing right and it's off into the bleachers with that sloppy pitch! It was made all the more sweet by the fact that when I got my first home run, the bases were loaded and it went straight over right centre for a grand slam. Was so chuffed with myself, I almost woke the gf!
The cut scenes are great too. When I knocked it out of the park, it cut to my guy running the bases, giving a couple of the base runners hi fives, then walking to his team mates who were all stood in a line and as he went down the line, he hi fived all of them.
Now if only it had Joe Morgan & Jon Miller doing the commentary and had the Bosox in it, it would be the perfect game!!!Last edited by MonkeyJuggleDX; 14-07-2007, 11:01.
