Xbox live subscription codes - region locked?

I've been hearing conflicting reports that people stating subscription codes from 1 region work on another yet others are stating they don't.

Can anyone on here confirm for me please? Cheers.

Thought they were region free (but Marketplace points aren't), what region code are you looking to use on what region 360 ?

US on a UK - there's a guy flogging 12+1 month codes on Ebay for £12 but at that price it does sound like a con to me, and that's one of the places that stated they didn't work.

Yeah I always thought they were totally region free.

The UK ones have always worked on my US account. Not quite the same thing you're asking but I can't see why it wouldn't work the other way around.

According to some feedbacks I've read, they don't work on UK machines apparently, which really doesn't make sense to me given what spatial's said

i got an original Xbox starter pack dirt cheap here in hong kong, and the 12 month code worked fine on my 360 british account (on an ntsc/J machine), if that helps

Don't quote me on this, but apparently they were region free in the past, but MS has now locked them.

i'm using a US code from eBay on my UK machine from late last year, no problems back then but don't know if it'll still work now.

Am I right in thinking that if you now want a Live subscription on a US account you need a US code? PAL ones won't work anymore?

MS Points have always been territory locked, but US Live codes used to work. I've heard they are now territory locked, but I don't know when they started doing it.

Only going on my experience as of dec I gave a friend a live code I bought whilst I was in New York and he registered it on 21st Dec and it worked fine. Dont know about now though.
