Just started WoW....what the hell do I do now!?

So I've got this 12 day free trial thing for World of Warcraft and so I thought I would see what the fuss is all about. But from having a look round the net for newbie guides and stuff, it all seems so bloody confusing.

Can anyone tell me the best things for me to be doing right now to start myself off and get used to the world and the inventory etc? I really haven't got a clue what I should be doing as everything looks so complicated. I'm a mage by the way. Please help! (or some other peeps take me under your wing!)

Blizzard has a pretty good section on the newbies to the game.

    Getting Started - http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/...ngstarted.html

    First few levels -

    All the help topics -

The games is a bit daunting at first, but the in game help is useful to start with. Think of levels 1-10 as the tutorial, so be prepared to make mistakes, and ask questions.

Thanks for those chap, I will have a read of them after the footie and have another go. Is there anyone out there that can meet up with me and take them under their wing for a bit or something? Is there still an active clan thing on here?

I'm on Darkspear killing wolves and stuff like that. Don't really know what I need to do and how I get a team together to do quests and stuff. Can you help?

Not one of my servers I'm afraid, or I'd be glad to!

EDIT: But ask on the General Chat channel in ironforge, there's usually someone who'll take you under their wing!

Thanks for the tip. I'm getting the hang of it all now and I'm level 8. Everything still seems very complex and daunting and I'm usually just running about in Elwynn Forest and stuff like that. Does anyone have any recommendations on how I can get more into the game and start doing some interesting things (for instance how can I travel faster from city to city? It takes me bloody ages in foot!).

                  I'm starting this myself soon.

It looks like each race has it's own type of mount to traverse on at lv.40 and then an upgrade at lv.60. I'm thinking of being a Tauron so I'll get a huge white boar! get in!

Quit it. Thats what you should do now. Before you lose your job, wife, self respect, and teeth to this bundle of arse game.

Failing that, you get around faster by talking to Flight Masters in towns, or as Dave says, getting a mount (Its Tauren, Dave, and they ride Kodo)

But ill warn you one last time, quit it before you start. Ive seen it take peoples souls and personalities, this game.

                      Enjoy...

The gaming equivalent of a speedball Dave, watch yourself! I seem to remember you slagging WOW off and anyone who played it at Crisps

Aye. I'm playing it to shut all my friends up who've quit FFXI more than anything. They're saying it's miles better blah blah. I'll sign up, create an alliance character, hunt them down then wipe them out. lol.

one of my mates in the US plays this, well used to... he was one of the top pvp players for a while and consistently whooped all who stood before him. he was kinda like you on ff dave but even more extreme, i'm amazed he lived through it.

seriously though, can i have your stuff if you croak it?

Quickest way to move about - there are Airships between major towns if you're Horde. There is the Deeprun Tram between Stormwind and Ironforge if you're Alliance. There are also flightmasters everywhere who run fixed flight routes, for a small cost. You just need to walk to a new area, unlock the flightmaster, and then you can fly between the points you've unlocked.

You can, when you're a higher level get a variety of mounts which move you around faster.

Mages can also cast portals for you, which you can use.

For the time being don't worry too much about exploring the world. Level up a bit in Elwynn Forest, then venture out, find some flightmasters and begin to explore. The zones that radiate out from Elwynn are designed to get progressively more difficult, and so you will naturally find yourself exploring as you level up.
