    Rolling N64 picture

Plugged my N64 in today to play Excitebike and the picture is rolling from top to bottom of the screen.

Its rgb modded, and the rgb lead had something done to it aswell, so could it be something as simple as something coming loose?

    Anywhere i could check first?

Sounds silly, but is the Scart port RGB-capable? The second port on a TV is usually not RGB capable and will run in S-Video instead.

It is mate, yes. Got it in AV1.

It's a great picture, just won't sit still!

Sounds daft, but it wouldn't be anything to do with it being an lcd tv? No setting i have to change?

AActually that sounds bollocks as im tying it.

did it used to work nick? it sounds to me very much like pin 8 and 16 (switching/widescreen pins) aren't quite working right. i did read somewhere about some lcd's being more fussy about the voltage across those pins. also, are you running through the argos scart switcher? if you are try without. also if you are using the switcher you could try powering on another console attached to it, according to someone on here that can help.

To be fair it sounds either an issue with the cable or the TV scart socket.

I dont think ive used it since Saur modded it, about 2 years ago maybe, but it was working.

You think the first step would be open up the cable?

Balls. Got an old 14" portable CRT on top of the fridge in the kitchen, and it works fine in there.

Does this mean no N64 for me on an LCD? Guess so

that means that your telly is fussy about the voltage on pin 16, it may not quite be enough.

good link that explains scart pins here

the little trick i mentioned with the scart switch box is a good way to do it. any other scart device that works okay (an xbox for example) in another slot usually provides enough voltage for it to switch properly.

                    this thread is probably relevant

                      Thanks mate.

Unfortunately got no other rgb devices anywhere

                      Stuck i guess.

never had a n64 so feel free to point and laugh if i am wrong.

Could you not use an s-video lead to allow you to still play your n64 on your lcd assuming your tv has either a s-video socket or a second scart which is s-video enabled and connect using a s-video to scart adapter.

Could do i guess, annoying though as it's an rgb modded NTSC one.

That could be my only way though. Or i may try and get a pal snes or dc for a fiver odd and use that to switch.

Alas, the problems of LCDs not designed with retro gaming systems in mind my Master System and Megadrive wont sync on my LCD.. CRT FTW!

Got the urge to play Excitebike again. Noticed on my rolling picture that the TV says AV4/RGB.

Does this mean the TV is in RGB mode, and the rolling could be something else?
