you put the ps2 into standby mode, then turn it back on by holding eject for about 5 secs (until the sony entertainment screen).

of course you'll be wanting to play your games with the chip on, but yeah it'd save a lot of head scratching by taking the chip out of the equation before physically taking the chip out of the equation

and you're right, the dms3 site is useless for finding the sleep mode on dms3! i found it out first as it mentioned something in the troubleshooting but didn't specifically say what to do (just that if the chip doesn't turn on cos it thinks you're holding down eject) then i just googled and found the answer.

My PC has collapsed but I've got my old Mac up and running so I'm back online at home and can finally feed back. I had a guess at the right connector to unsolder from the Mod, there was a short thick wire going to ground, I unsoldered it and tried again but no change. I also tried it with the chip in Sleep mode - thanks for the confirmation on how to do that - but still no change. Still, it was worth taking the PS2 apart to at least find out.

A new Playstation 2 from Amazon.co.jp in Japan now is under ?70, it'll cost a little more by the time I get it here via a third party importer but I'll have a nice white PS2 with ethernet and I'll sell off my modded PAL version. Does anyone know if Ebay have a ban on selling modded PS2's? They actually banned me from selling a legitimate NTSC Japan version of Shinobi because they claimed it contravened their terms of trading so I doubt if they'll let me sell a modded PS2??

They will do if somebody reports it. They'll try with anything that can play copied games.

You could always stick it on with a 3 day listing. If someone did report it there's a good chance ebay wouldn't get round to pulling it 'til after the deal was done.

Alternatively you could try the trading folder here. Sure there'd be a few people who wouldn't be too bothered about the component thing.

or put it on ebay and call it a 'special ps2'. that's what most people do.

i sold one once and just said it'd play everything you'd care to throw at it, and ppl got the message

Exactly, that's the sort of thing I've done.

The people who are looking fchipped consoles will know exactly what things like "Not region locked" & "Plays international games" mean. If they don't..they usually PM you and ask.

Ha ha, I love it. Yes I'll do that or maybe sell it here as you suggest. I've ordered my new slimline and Magic Disks with Magic Key II, it works on the latest models so every thing's worked out nicely. Thanks everyone for all the feedback.
