Where to (cheaply) get an HDMI lead on the high street?

Or from the out-of-town shopping centres, too, of course.

As per my other post I want to try another HDMI cable to see if that could be what's causing the video corruption problems with my PS3.

I know I can get them cheaply online but I'd prefer one today, and I don't want to get too arse-raped over the price. PC World, Maplin & Currys are all nearby - any other suggestions?

Argos or Woolworths would probably be cheaper than those three you mention, assuming you have branches nearby of course.

Argos lists Tristar & Thor HDMI cables at £20 for 1m (a little short) or £40 for 1.5m or 2m. They have the official PS3 HDMI at £17.99 but I find even that a little steep.

Thanks! Woolies have a 1m cable at a tenner (and the official PS3 HDMI at £17.99 and some other outrageous £40 - £50 jobs) so that looks choice right now.

I'm sure I've read posts about supermarkets knocking them out for under a fiver, maybe someone can confirm?

I finished up work about the time you posted & tried Asda & Tesco. Tesco wanted £20 for a 2m, Adsa £12 for a 3m - I reluctantly settled for the latter.

I really resent paying this much for an HDMI lead because I paid about £7.50 for my original one from my local tech warehouse - and trying the replacment has proved there's nothing wrong with that!!

There's really nothing special about HDMI cables and no real reason they should be more expensive than SCART or parallel printer cables. You'd probably pay £2 for one of those online (or from my trade I.T. supplier) and only a fiver or so from Maplins / PC World / wherever, but because HDMI are the latest thing and we don't happen to have zillions of them lying around that we throw away when we have a tidy-up these retailers can get away with charging silly money for them. It really irks me, that.

Thanks for all the suggestions, folks.
