PS2/PS3 Sticks on backwards compatible games

I'm having some problems using PS2 controllers and PS3 sticks via USB when playing PS1 or PS2 games on my JPN PS3.

It seems that for most people, once the 1.7 firmware was installed, the prompt about pressing the PS button was removed, but for me it is still displaying every time I boot a PS1/PS2 game, thus preventing me from using anything but the PS3's own controller.

Does anyone else have this problem, or know of a possible solution to it?

don't you just press the analogue button?

maybe thats my mistake, thats with ps3 titles using a ps2 pad

I haven't tried that, I shall give it a whirl after work.

I was more concerned that my VSHG was failing to be recognised even after pressing the PS button on it. Gradius isn't really that fun without a stick!

version 1.80 has knackered using the virtua stick in ps2 games. Don't know whether that affects all third party controllers

wait, what's this talk? i've got the hori ps3 stick and while atm i just have vf5 to play it with, i was hoping it'd work with ps1/2 games. does the vfhg not have the ps button?

posting this from my phone so i can't link to it but check out the thread about the version 1.80 firmware. There's some discussion about it there. I guess its just an oversight and it'll get fixed in the next release. Finger's crossed anyway.

Has it really? 1.8 is the snazzy upscaling one isn't it?

Haven't used my VSHG on a PS2 game since i had that accident with the memory card.

After the 1.8 update the VSHG doesn't work with ps2 games but the HRAP3 does now. My HRAP3 has always worked with ps1 games tho. I bought it when it was first released and it hasnt changed as regards to the ps1 compatibility throughout the firmware upgrades. The VSHG works for me on ps1 games aswell, just not ps2.

i'm assuming the vf stick doesn't have the PS button then? my hori one (not rap, the regular £30 one) has a 'home' button which i'm assuming is the PS button. i haven't tried it on the ps3 yet...
