Streaming Media Center to 360 - help!

I got a Vista laptop a while back and wanted to get the 360 working properly with Media Center.

The set up I have is a Netgear DG834G wireless router. The Xbox 360 is connected to this with ethernet. It works great with the XBL functionality, etc

The laptop is wireless of course. The problem I have is I can stream MP3s and movies from the PC to the 360 with Vista Media Center but after a few minutes there is stuttering and eventually things will cease up.

Do I need to start doing stuff like opening ports on the router, etc - what basic things can I do to make this work better. Even navigating the albums is painfully slow, something must be wrong!

The problem is how you connect it to the router. Ideally the media center PC and the 360 should be on ethernet, but it will run fine if the PC is on ethernet, with the 360 on wireless.

The way you are doing it will upset things greatly. I had the same issue till I connected it up the other way.

In that case what a load of balls. I would have thought it was reasonable to have a 360 connected over ethernet and a laptop using wifi. What do Microsoft expect me to do jack the laptop in with ethernet everytime I want to stream a movie? So it just won't work properly then?

My PC is wireless and the 360 is wired and I don't get those sort of problems. Navigating stuff is slow, but streaming video works fine.

Yeah strangely streaming video seems to work ok. It's just mp3s which will cut out often.

Funnily enough I had that with MP3's cutting out when I was using WMC and had the 360 wired to the router and the PC wirelessly connected.

            Now none of it works
