s-video cable - still no colour

hi guys, i have this tv:

sharp CRT 59Ds05H (brought it around the time of the n64)

my NTSC wii was not displaying colour so i brought this:

TeckNet TYW-1024 Nintendo Wii 2in1 Cable (Scart Cable +S AV cable)

    and this adapter:

Philips SWV3563/10 Switchable Scart to 3 x RCA Phono and S-Video Adapter

my wii is still in black and white - what have i done wrong!!!

S-Video is usually only accepted through the second Scart socket, so make sure you are connecting (via the adaptor) into that one.

If that does not work, then your TV probably does not support NTSC.

i presume you are using the tv scart which accepts the s-video input.I used to have the same set up on my switched cube and on the tv av channels i had to go through the av channels until av2-s to get colour on the cube as av2 would show the cube in black and white.

there are only 4 av channels:

          euroscart (nothing connected)
          AV1 (wii connected)
          SVHS (same wii picture)
Front (nothing connected at front of tv)

on both AV1 and SVHS the wii is displayed as black and white

i have also gone through all channels if it is that

Has the tv worked with other ntsc consoles. If not then i suspect that Shakey is spot on.

Precisely, it doesn't say in the manual. Your TV only supports PAL. Mine for example states it supports PAL and NTSC in the specifications at the back of the manual. Yours just says PAL. So it won't handle an NTSC signal. Time to get a new TV...

                      SO NEW TV ONLY OPTION?

There is a link to the manual (pdf) in the first post, but i dont seem to see NTSC anywhere - i cant believe a £500 Tv which was brought about 6 years ago doesnt have NTSC.

I read about people who use tv's from the 1980's but mine doesnt work???

It all depends on what parts the manufacturer chose to throw into that TV.

The options are to buy a Component video cable and a Component to RGB SCART transcoder (pricy) or to buy a new TV (pricier still). You could also try to find a box that "boosts" the NTSC colour signal and converts the video signal to PAL-60 but the quality will probably be lousy.

will this be goos enough to desplay my NTSC wii in colour?

If your satisfied with your TV overall, then the cheapest decent option is a Component-to-RGB converter like Lyris mentioned. They are about ?70, or were last I checked.
'cheapest' is a NTSC-to-PAL60 converter for about a tenner, but they're apparently pretty crap.
