It's multivoltage, dispite what it says on the back of the machine.

The power supplies are exactly the same in all regions for PS3.

"The US and Japan uses 110-120V, 60Hz adaptors. We have confirmation from SCEA now that the power supply inside the Playstation 3 is, in fact, universal. The power supply supports 100 to 240 volts at 50 to 60 Hertz, which is useable in all modern power grids -- including Europe. Although European markers require a different physical plug for their infrastructure, there is no need to replace the power supply."

While I was a little worried, I can confirm that you can indeed just plug a European lead into a US PS3 and have it run on ~230 V. I got my US PS3 in today and just borrowed a cable from an external HDD adapter I wasn't using, and it's working perfectly.

All recent PSx products have been multi-voltage btw, both my PStwo (slim) and PSP adapters are multi-voltage too.

Because they have an EXTERNAL PSU, do mind.

You will still burn an external PSU if it's not multivoltage.

Duh, I mean the output (9/12V) is always the same.

Anyway, the connector won't fit into the wall bracket. I think GHDpro is led to think the input is multi!!! (read his post )

What I was trying to say that the PSP and PStwo adapters both take 100-240V, so you only need a plug adapter to use them anywhere. I have a Japanese PSP, so that is convenient. On the other hand, my Japanese DS adapter won't work (it's 100V only).

Arguably you're more more likely to see auto-switching (multi-voltage) external power supplies compared to internal ones.

Ah, didn't know the official cables did this... thought it were replacement cables of some sort.
