    Would I like Oblivion if......

Googling and browsing forums doesn't seem to be able to provide me an answer!

Would I like Elder Scrolls: Oblivion if I loved Deus Ex, and yet hate (despise, abhor) the likes of Neverwinter Nights, KOTOR and City of Heores?

I've seen Deus Ex described as an RPG, but for me it was FPS/Adventure. I hate the turn based nature of the other games I have mentioned.

There's a pretty high chance you will enjoy it. Certainly worth giving it a try.

I love Oblivion almost as much as Morrowind. I hardly played Deus Ex but loved the freedom of it. Didn't enjoy the narrow pathways that KOTOR seemed to push me down, storywise.

      Go on! Buy it!

I bought this game and didn`t get on with it, then bought it again a while later to see if I would enjoy it but I didn`t.

I thought it was boring, but Patrick Stewart is in it so it can`t be all bad!

        "Let it be so!"

It's definately a game that took me some time to click. It's a game where you might automatically be playing it trying to progress to the next point in the game - can't really play it like that. There is a loose progression of sorts, but the point is the freedom of what feel like doing in the game today.

I usually don't like those kinds of games tbh, but when Oblivion clicked, I loved it.

I guess it can be a bit of an aquired taste. Oblivion and Morrowind are too of the best games i've ever played, and I loved Deus Ex.

So you didn't like NWN etc? - maybe you won't like the setting to Oblivion in that case but whilst its D&D influenced, it doesn't play to much like NWN, or Baldurs Gate, KOTOR etc. The action definitely isn't as fun as Deus Ex, and there's a lot of levelling involved.

It it a first person adventure after all, like Deus Ex, but not FPS. In any case, give it a try, it might suit you, and if it does its worth it as you'll be playing it for a long time to come.

              THanks for the replies, guys.

Nobody has really convinced me it's worth the ?18 or so it would cost.

Well thing it, you'll either hate it, or think it's the greatest game of all time.

I've never been able to play any ofg them, they never floated my boat, neither did morrowind, but Oblivion was absolutely brilliant.
I paid £50 for it a year ago and that was well worth the 80 hours Iput into it, not only that but I bought the expansino pack too the other month and enjoyed that just as much.

from one RPG hater to another, give it a go

I would say that Oblivion plays more like an adventure/fps title, but with the level up element of traditional RPGs - combat can either be first or 3rd person and I find it to be incredibly fluid. In terms of gameplay, its completely non-linear and I would compare it highly to Deus Ex (in all but the setting) which I also highly enjoyed.

Take a look at the videos available on the net or marketplace if you need to take a look at it in action. You could also download the first elder scrolls game - Arena, for free from Bethesda's website which should give a good idea of how it will play, albeit alot more primatively of course.

Not worth £18? Oblivion's a substitute for your real life (okay, it's not that good, but you get what I'm saying). Seriously, it's a fantastic game and as impressive as Gears or Forza 2 or any 360 game you care to mention. Taking all the expansion packs into consideration I probably spent £70 - £80 on Oblivion but it was worth every penny, it's easily my most enjoyable 360 experience to date and have spent over 400 hours playing it.

Everybody should give it a go because when it clicks into place it's unbeatable.

My favourite game on the 360 thus far (beats Forza, GoW etc.). Generally speaking, there's so much to do, you decide how to play the game and how you find it enjoyable to do so. For more impressions, have a look in First Play.
