LCD for an NTSC wii? Samsung R88 NTSC 3.58 support?

I've found a ton of useful info on this forum, but wanted to get some last advice before I part with my cash.

I'm moving from the US to the UK in 2 weeks and will be bringing my NTSC wii with me and want to buy a 26" or 32" LCD for under 500 quid.

The Samsung R88 and R74 series look like good deals to me, but I got the following email from Samsung when I asked about NTSC 3.58 support:

NTSC 3.58 is designed for display on NTSC screens. NTSC 4.43 is intended
for video signals being used on a PAL enabled screen. None of our LCD
panels are capable of displaying NTSC 3.58
It was my understanding from the guides here that I'll need NTSC 3.58 support for my wii if I connect via composite or S-Video. I think I avoid this requirement if I connect via component - is that correct?

Do modern LCDs still come with composite input? This would be the easiest way for me to connect if the TV supported NTSC 3.58, and I could upgrade to s-video or component later.

So finally, can anyone recommend a sub 500 GBP LCD with NTSC 3.58 support (if that is indeed required) and with good upscaling for SD signals so my wii and dvd playback look nice.

    Thanks for the advice!

Normally a new LCD has got at least 1 scart + 1 composite input, if not, the composite is replaced by a second scart (just use a cinch-to-scart plug).

I asked about this too in the store where I bought my LCD, the seller couldn't answer my question, but he assured me I could get a refund if NTSC didn't work. Immediately tried with a JAP Saturn and it worked (true NTSC). I think it was a 20" Samsung, dunno what model though...

I'm pretty sure that all TVs come with composite, but it won't look "nice" as you request. It'll make your eyes bleed. You're best off getting a TV with component input - my US Wii looks lovely on my UK-bought Sharp Aquos using this method.

I don't know anything about NTSC 3.58 & 4.43, but I don't think it should make any difference on component - I haven't heard of any US Wiis failing to work on UK tellies when connected that way.

Not all TVs have component but you'll surely find some recommendations on AV Forums - just don't take the griping or complaints about any particular model too much to heart.

      Stroller.

Thanks for the advice - that is reassuring. Could anyone with experience please post if they have had success or problems connecting an imported wii to a UK LCD using component?

If a TV has component, it will play your wii via component.

You'll need a UK PSU too. Ring Nintendo when you get here. £20 or so I think.

maughanahan - just to echo what others are saying, almost anything you look at will work with NTSC, PAL and SECAM over the video inputs. It's basically an expected feature over here so anything you buy (unless perhaps it's at a rock-bottom price) will work fine.
