In all honesty, it really doesn't matter with digital leads, they either work or they don't. You can use any, for the most part.

well true for hd stuff, ive just had sky hd installed and with the hdmi on sd it dosent look as good as my old scart lead, on hd all looks good with lead supplied just switched to my ps3 lead with i paid a bit for and looks miles beter on sd feed than the one sky supplied.

well, ill explain bbc hd looks the same through both my hdmi leads ie cheap one and dearer one, bbc1 and bbc2 look better through my dearer hdmi lead than the cheap one sky gave me, and as i watch SD most of the time im not happy with the cheap lead.

That really doesn't make sense though, it's a digital signal. It's either perfect, or the signal will start to break up. There's no signal degratation in the same way as Scart cables.

With a better cable though, there is less chance of the picture breaking up from interference. This may be happening infrequently, which can present on-screen as tearing or dropped frames or pixels, depending on how individual TVs deal with dropped signal packets. At some point, the HDMI signal loses so much data that the image is not recoverable.

So it's not just a simple case of perfect image or no image.

That's what I'm saying though. If there's a bad connection or interference meaning the signal isn't getting through properly, you'll see symptoms such as the signal breaking up, additional macroblocking, 'sparkles' and whatnot, but assuming there is no interference in the signal (which there shouldn't be in a normal cable at the kind of lengths we're talking about), there shouldn't be a visual difference in the image displayed (compared to analogue cables, where you could say one was sharper, clearer, better colours, whatever).
All things being correct and working, a cheap cable will look identical to an £200 one.

(EDIT - wow just realised this post sounds almost aggressive - not meant to be!)

to be honest ive went for a lead around ?50 , this a sony x series tv that cost my a damn fortune so another ?50 wont really matter in the grand scheme of things, but the SD picture on such a expensive set is dissapointing to say the least, but i knew that with the reviews before i bought it. but in HD mode its imperious.
