Wall mount LCD TV on Chimney Breast which is also an Open fire ?

I'm buying a flat which has an open fire which we will continue to use. However due to the layout of the room we also wanted to use the chimney breast above the fireplace to mount our LCD TV.

Obviously we would have to channel out the plaster for the mains etc and route it down the side of the chimney breast but I was wondering if there was a problem with the heat from the fire inside the chimney breast warping or affecting the TV ?

I've just done the same with my plasma. Fingers crossed though. I haven't had a fire yet. I can't see it being a problem.

it is generally not a good idea depending on you chimney breast... some get VERY hot, others not really. i fitted an £8k screen on a breast (ha) a while back with no trouble. i really am fearing the day i get a phonecall saying "it's melted".

having said that though i've had tvs next to some amazingly hot radiators which haven't been affected. this post hasn't really been much help has it? sorry.

Getting the chimney lined may help (if it isn't already that is)

Not really, it sounds like your sitting on the fence mate.

How about trunking for the cables, instead of chasing them in, so they are on the outer surface?

That's what i have done, painted the plastic, and you barely notice it.

I'm drilling a channel at a slight angle from the middle to the side with a rather long drill bit. That way, I won't have to cement and plaster.
