PSP battery recommendations

Hi all

I'm in the process of buying a PSP for the first time, and know that the battery life is pretty crap on some games (3 hours?). I've heard there are replacement batteries you can buy which last about twice as long.

Can anyone recommend a replacement battery and a place to buy it? Or did I just dream that these things exist?

There is an official "20% up" battery available in Japan. You can get them on eBay amongst other places.

Sounds interesting. So instead of 3 hours that would give me 3.5 hours? ...Just checked eBay and they're going for about £6, which isn't bad.

I've had 7 hours out of mine compared with 5 hours on teh normal one.

various things can affect the battery life though, for example changing the brightness of the screen and so on. If you go down the line of putting a modified firmware on there then you can save a lot more battery by copying your games to the memory stick.the mechanical nature of the drive is the biggest battery drain by far.

@J0e: that sounds good enough for me. I'll probably be using the mem card anyway -- it's just the thought of running Ridge Racer off umd that gives me nightmares. But 7 hours is more than acceptable. It's about what I get from my DS.

I have one of these 20%+ ones coming to me as i type, it seems to come with a seperate charger. Can the new battery be charged in the PSP with the adaptor (ie the old fashioned way)?

Yer. The external charger requires a stepdown anyway, but it's faster and therefore betterer.

No need to risk ebay.
The official +20% batteries are out here now aswell.

Those £5-6 things on ebay are all fakes. There's no chance you'd get a genuine official one for that price.
