Hiya boys & girls,
I bought a lovely Dell Inspiron 1501 Laptop at the end of Febuary on the recommendation of you funky people here, & it was a wonderful machine- everything I could have asked for in a laptop. Obviously it was all upto date & running smooth until D-day (yesterday, to be exact).
I was watching a DVD in bed when the battery ran out mid- film. This happened very suddenly & without warning, but when plugging it in for a reboot Vista wouldn't start. Pertrubed, I tried to start in safe mode- no luck, just a blank screen after the 'windows loading' bit.
Went into the bios & tried to search for any errors, none found so I thought I'd put the Vista disc in & try to boot from there & repair, did so but it said nothing needed repairing. It doesn't find the windows backup on my 2nd partition & system restore wouldn't work.
****
So I did what we all have to do in situations like this and took it like a man, reinstalling Windows. Oh, it doesn't work (it puts the files on the pc then crashes to the BSOD when it auto-reboots). So I did something really painful & formatted my C: drive, losing everything I had on there.
Boot to disc, clean install- this should work great! Except it didn't, I have the same problem. I can only get Windows to install as far as it's first auto-restart then it crashes & nothing else is sorting the problem out. I spent all of last night reinstalling & trying everything I could to get it working but to no avail.
So here's the problem: what now? Get in touch with Dell I guess would be the logical thing, I've tried everything I think I could but nothing seems to be working. It's not like I'm bad with PC's either- my previous XP machine never had a reinstall or serious problem. I have all of the latest driver & antivirus updates installed- hell I even kept the annoying UAC feature enabled in Vista but the laptop still clogged it.
So as a last resort I'm reaching out to you guys.. anybody have any advice on what this could be before I get in touch with Dell? I'd really prefer not to have to go through the hassle of getting my laptop exchanged if possible..
Thanks in advance for your help
