    PS3 US or PAL Uk?

Hi I've been considering buying a PS3, and am unsure at the moment whether to import one from somewhere like VG+ or to just buy a UK Pal version, from somewhere like Game.

What do peeps on here think?
what pros and cons exist either for uk PAL version or the US Ntsc version?
    Thanks in advance

Personally, it depends on the backwards compatability issue. As a machine will only play PS1/2 games from it's native region, it's down to that.

Me, I collect Japanese games for those systems, so that was the only viable option for me.

For PS3 games, there is very little to choose between them. But, if you're using a SDTV, not all PAL releases will run on an NTSC machine. I can't get Tekken or any of the PAL PS1 downloads to run on mine until I get a HDTV. Also, Oblivion & COD3 don't work in SD on an import system.

    Hope that helps a little.

Yeah, backwards compatibility was my main driving point too. I went US because most of my PS2 games are US. Other than the SD issues that've been mentioned already there's little difference - if you do opt for US though, I'd get in before they [inevitably] remove the EE chip from the build, if they haven't already.

At this point in time, I would get a UK machine.

I've had a Jap one for a while, and the backwards compatibility thing is annoying tbh, and while most Blu Rays are still working, more and more discs are enforcing region protection.

The only universal seems to be the PS3 games, so a UK machine that plays import PS3 games no probs, but still plays domestic old games and movies seems to be the best of both worlds at the minute... I would swap my Jap one for a UK one if my Jap one hadn't lost so much of its value, and the UK ones weren't so highly priced.

Exactly what everyone else said: I got a US PS3 for backwards compatibility. Unfortunately mine has died and now has to be sent back to VG+, which'll undoubtedly turn out to be very expensive.
I don't see any other reason to buy a US PS3, to be honest, but it will be nice to be able to play PS2 games on it.

I agree, unless you have a big collection of us/jap p1/ps2 games then just buy a UK PS3.

Or just buy a UK ps3 and keep a native PS2 for the us/jap ps1/ps2 games.

My feelings are then, you can play the UK release Blue Ray disks etc.

I don't plan to buy a ps3 for a few years but I've always assumed when the time comes I'll be buying a US one for the USA Blue Ray films (assuming they're survived the format war and no ?50 blue ray machines had been released by then). Like Games, Americans used to always get faster and better movie releases. I would never choose to buy a UK format only film player again
