Smallest, cheapest 1080p set for gaming & PC?

    Hi!

I have a lovely Plasma TV for gaming, and an equally lovely HD projector for film/gaming too.

But the sad fact of the matter is that I do 99% of my gaming on an old 19inch LCD from DELL.

    Soooooo....

For anyone else who finds the best place to get a few hours gaming in, is the study/spare room/out of sight....

What options do we have for a nice small 1080p screen for gaming?

    I would like to connect

    1.) PC (7800GT over DVI)
2.) 360 (Prefer component, but have VGA cable too)
    3.) PS3 over HDMI.

I really really don't want to spend more than 500 quid.

I'd consider a 720P set too, if the quality was good enough.

The PC performance is important too. I don't want blury text or anything on the DVI port.

    Thanks for any advice!

You'll be better off going for 720p if £500 is your budget - pretty sure you won't get a 1080p compatible panel for that price !!!

You could probably get a Samsung 32" LCD for about that these days ??? If that's too big the 26" would deffo be in your price bracket.

to be honest ive just upgraded to a 1080P sony X series and ive ran it alongside my old set and i can notice so liitle difference between 720P and 1080P its hardly worth it, apart from the pictures clearer on the new set because its superior to my old plasma.

Ok then guys, what sort of 720p set would do me, in the 26inch bracket?

        (DVI, HDMI, Component + DSUB)

If you want PC performance, steer clear of the cheap sets entirely. Samsung do plenty of big and cheap screens, but they are not really suited to be used as a PC screen.

But you could get a very good resolution Dell or similar 26" with component and DVI input for your budget. I'm not sure about HDMI, been a few months since I really looked into it.

It's a bit over budget, but Dell norway has 25% off one called The Dell? UltraSharp? 2707WFP widescreen flat panel monitor

            It's 9497, so ?791.

Is that going to be any good for gaming? Or will it be all blury and slow to respond like my 19Inc 1024x1080 Dell ultrasharp?

It says DVI with HDCP, so I guess PS3 can use a DVI converter.

Get a Sony 720p set. If it's gonna be under 40" do you really need 1080p?
                  Kept you waiting, huh?

For a wide PC screen over 21", 1280x720 is a pretty low res.

                      Agreed.

                      I'd like a 1080p if possible, 27inch.

?750 should do it, but that Dell review put me off a bit.

If you’ve got the cash go for the BenQ FP241WZ, sounds ideal for what you need - 24", 1080p, HDMI, just about every input under the sun.

Now they look very tasty! I'm a dual monitor nerd tho, and my OCD tendencies mean I need two of the same... that's a grands worth of monitors!

Apparently the Perfect Motion Technology is a bit of a damp squib from reading up on it, save yourself the 100 quid...
