Mac Geeks Please...

Hey, I know this is a gaming site so strictly speaking I shouldn't ask OS stuff but there seems to be a lot of Mac users here so here goes....

Can anyone tell me if, or how, I can stop a particular application showing in the Mac OS X dock when I launch said app???

There's definitely no obvious way to do this.
There is a very complicated workaround afaik. I've never tried it though.
