    More Xbox questions :)

    Lo

I have just got my xbox chipped and was told to install something called evolutionX to allow me to ftp files onto my xbox

now for me to do this i need to get my ftp program to connect to the xbox but my pc doesnt see it

the ip it assigns is 192.168.0.3

i have my cable modem plugged into a router with my pc and xbox connected to that.

anyone got any ideas on how i can get these connected?

i am using windows xp operating system

    Cheers

    basically thats my setup

but the comment it says is

If you are using a router, such as a Linksys BEFSR41, it is already acting as a DHCP server. So it will automatically assign your Xbox a dynamic IP address.

which i have no clue what that means

Looks like your router is assigning an IP address to the xbox, which is fine, however your PC won't be able to "connect" to the xbox yet as the Evox software needs to be running on the Xbox. This needs to be booted from a cd (preferably cd-rw, some drives are better at reading recorded media than others).

So you boot Evox from a CD, once it's loaded, the FTP server which is built into Evox will now be running. Now you can check the Evox settings, see what IP has been assigned to your Xbox, and connect to that with your FTP client program on the PC.

Then you "install" Evox to your HD by transferring the files over FTP.. once that's done you don't need the CD anymore but it's handy to keep a backup of in case Evox gets corruped on the HD and needs to be re-installed in the future.

To make things easier (if you have broadband) hunt around for "Slayers Install Disc" on the xbox-scene forums (it's around 100MB). This will install evox and various apps straight from the CD so no FTP'ing is necessary. Although you'll still need to learn how to FTP to add/remove/modify files on your HD later on.

One thing about the Slayers Disc is that it seems to disable the BIOS flashing option in Evox...

        No idea why though.

I imagine www.xbox-scene.com is the place to look for the most professional amateur help.

Anyway, I think the problem is that somehow connecting through the router either gives the Xbox a new IP (have you set dhcp off in the box, can you?) or somehow makes it impossible to connect to these 192.168.0.x etc. addresses?

I have the same problem. To fix it, I started to use a direct x-linked cable to connect my pc and the Xbox through a second NIC, built in on my mobo.

            Thanks for the replies

I have the same problem as viktor, It doesnt seem to like connecting to the 192.168.0.x ip range, connection just times out. I cant even ping the xbox from a command prompt!!!

one of me mates believes he has a solution to this so i will post details if it works. In the meantime if anyone else has any more ideas i would love to hear them

            cheers
