US Wii won't work with this stepdown - what am I missing?

My US Wii arrived but for some reason I can't get it to work with my new stepdown. I know the console itself is fine because I tried it with my (soon to be sold) UK power supply and it works alright.

The stepdown I'm using is one of these babies from Maplins. It's rated 100w and does 100-120v. The Wii is 58w / 110v I believe, so this should be fine. Am I missing something here?

The only other thing I can think of, is that it's something to do with that hole for a third pin (you can only just make it out on the photo). The plug on the Wii is only two pins. I'm thinking maybe the third pin acts like a safety lockout like with UK plugs, can anyone confirm this?

Could always be a dead unit I suppose but I'd like to find out one way or the other before I go driving to the other side of town to exchange it!

I use exactly the same one without any problems, so it might be yours is faulty.

It's certainly looking that way. I've had it plugged into the wall for about an hour and it's not even warming up like I'd expect. At least now I know there's nothing wrong *in principle* with the stepdown I can just get an exchange. Thanks!

EDIT - Got it exchanged and the new one's working fine

I paid £11.49 for a UK Wii power supply, myself.
