Yes. If you're using HDMI, apparently (not sure why, someone else posted that bit elsewhere - I'm a TV nubbin).

PS3 is region free for games full stop, but when using non-HD you will hit a problem where the PAL PS3 is not compatible with 480i/p output. This is not region protection as such, but would prevent games from running unless they support 576i/p.

This is not an issue with HD as they run in 720p/1080i/p anyway.
