US Gamecube - best picture? - Recommended S-Video cable?

    Hello,

Just got a switched US cube to save me constantly using freeloader to play all my games but, being the arse that I am, forgot that it wouldn't support RGB. I can get what I can only assume is composite through my RGB cable which is a bit of a shame, tbh, i'd rather use freeloader and play in RGB on my PAL cube. So, whats the best picture I can get without spending too much? I know there's the modded RGB cables and component cables but they seem pretty pricey - is there anything else I can use or am I just going to have to stick with the PAL cube and accept that i've just wasted ?15? (*Slaps self*)

    Cheers.

Depends what connections your display has. If you have VGA or component inputs you're laughing, if not then s-video is your best bet - but that'll look pretty inferior compared to RGB.

The GC looks pretty good via S-Video. I used that with my US Cube and Loewe CRT TV and I would reckon a RGB connection wouldn't look that much better.

I've used both svid and rgb in the past and I'd say if rgb was a 10/10 (discounting component here), then svid is a 9/10 so go for it. The only major problem it has is a slight bleed on the edge of bright primary colours.

Ah I see, never seen a s-video cable around here, where would I get one? Only want to play one or two games so I think this will be the best bet for me.

And Charlie does the cube do VGA? I've got the port for the component cable at the back, don't know if a VGA cable would go in there. Would be lovely to hook it up to my monitor along with the DC - if it looks any good that is?

            Cheers for the help folks.

The modded RGB cable does give a splendid picture. Well worth the £30 or so it'll cost you.

I'm sure it is, but as I said, there's only a few games that I really want to play through for the cube now, so its not worth shelling out for one if i'm honest. Wasn't sure if it was worth bothering buying a switched cube tbh, but since there so cheap I thought I may as well.

Sorry to bump, but could anyone suggest a decent s-video cable? - there seems to be a few brands about and I wouldn't want a dud.

Or am I going to be the only one on NTSC using s-video!

                  Cheers.

I've got a spare s-video cable somewhere I can send you. Not fantastic build but it'll give you an idea of the quality I suppose. LMK

I also have a modded RGB cable for sale in my trading thread. I've got it at ?18, but'll take less than that.

Thanks very much for the offer mrh, I think i'll take you up on this one. I could go to £15 for the RGB lead, but i'd say that's probably underpaying. Payment would be by cheque as well if you don't mind the wait.

Don't worry if not, the s-video cable would be grand and i'll send a couple of quid your way for postage etc. Thanks again mate.

Can I ask how it's 'modded'? Would this work for a US Wii on a Wii cable?

As far as I know, there's no mod for US Wii cables. It's either S-Video, composite or component.
