    iTunes 3 bug?

Every time I start my Mac up since I updated iTunes, it has to 'update the library', then tells me that it couldn't, and gives me error code (-50). All my music works fine, but I put a CD on there earlier today, restarted for a software update and when I went back onto iTunes it was gone.

What's going on? How do I fix it? =/

Firstly, you haven't run out of disc space, have you?

If not, sounds like the iTunes library file is damaged.

Check in the music folder to see if the actual mp3s/aacs are there. If so, then that's the most likely explanation.

Try the obvious stuff like repairing permissions. To do that, go to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility. Then select your main hard drive and click on Repair Permissions.

Restart after that and then see if it happens again.

If that doesn't help, then you might need to try running the disk scan thing. Boot up from the Tiger install CD and when you get the menu at the top of the screen, run Disk Utility and try scanning and repairing your hard drive.

You could try downgrading to 7.2... instructions are here: http://blacktree.cocoaforge.com/foru...b185750ea300f9

Or you could try deleting your iTunes library and reimporting your music. You won't have to re-rip your MP3s or type in the right ID3 information, you just need to drag them into iTunes. I think that'll kill any star ratings though.

    Hope that helps!

Well, the files are in the iTunes folder, and I repaired permissions but I still get the error, and the CD I imported (again) isn't there since I restarted =/

I'll have a go at the Disk Scan thing.

Try this: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93313 Let's you rebuild your iTunes library.

Did you use the install disc to repair permissions? Otherwise it doesn't work. Repairing permissions seems like an OS X urban legend anyway.

The help menu on most of Apples own apps is pretty useful.
