    5.1 Speaker Help

I have a relatively basic Sony 5.1 surround system which has served me well up until now, as the front left speaker keeps cutting out. I know nothing about speaker systems etc to be honets, would it be just a case of replacing the dodgy speaker with any other similar sized speaker or does it need to be a 'Left 5.1 speaker'??
Also i guess this could be a good time to upgrade all the speakers a little bit, particularly as i'll be moving out soon, can anyone point me in the direction of some decentish but cheap 5.1 speakers which'll be compatible with my system?
    Thanks in advance

the easiest way to test whether the speaker is at fault would be to disconnect the speaker wire from the back of the left and right one and swap them round.

then if the speaker cuts out on the right as you've swapped them the speaker is knackered if the left one still cuts out it isn't the speakers at fault

Yeah just switched them over and they both seem fine now, which is weird as i could've sworn i tried that before and the same speaker played up on both sides
Will report back if i get any more probs, cheers.
