Xbox DVD Region Coding

Hi,

Is it possible / an easy way to unlock the DVD region coding on a Pal Xbox. In simple terms, i want to turn my Pal Xbox into a Multi-Region DVD player if possible, not worried about losing Xbox live connection as not used it since i got my 360!!! If it is possible, what sort of cost is involved? and can anyone do it for me / recomend where i can get it done cheaply?

There's a little app (can't remember what it's called off hand) that will allow you to play any region of dvd on an Xbox.

To use it though you'll either need to mod (chipped) or soft-mod your Xbox.

If you're not planning on doing anything a bit more involved like fitting a larger hard drive then soft modding is probably the easiest/ cheapest option. To do it you need a soft-mod kit consisting of an old-ish copy of Splinter Cell & a memory card containing a hacked Splinter Cell save file. It's basically just a case of loading the save file and then following the on-screen prompts....if you do a search on Google you should be able to find guides/ screenshots etc. of exactly what's involved.

With a soft-modded machine you should be able to do pretty much everything a modded machine can such as installing a custom dashboard (to access the various apps/ settings etc.), play imports games, enable prog scan/ hi-def modes on a PAL Xbox (if you have component leads). Usually the apps to do most/ all of this are on the save file but if not they're readily available on the various Xbox hacking sites.

Getting the kit is probably the hardest bit. They sometimes come up for sale on the trading boards (look to spend £10-£12ish) or you could always place a Wanted listing asking for a loan of one...pretty sure another member would be happy to oblige.

Anyone on here got the save file etc? got Splinter Cell & An action replay which is required to do the softmod....... Or anyone here that could do this for me?

Just remember if you spend money on hard drive, chip, remote control. You might well get one of those budget DVD player for about 60 pounds. They will do the job. I recommend one from Pioneer if possible. Have a look at amazon.co.uk for a selection of cheaper DVD Player.
