    PStwo as a DVD player

I've just got a new 23" LCD tv for the bedroom and I want a DVD player to use with it.

Would a slimline pstwo connected via component be recommended?

Works beautifully for me on a 26" LCD. Never had any problems with picture quality or playback.

Others with keener eyes might tell you different, of course.

Looks good enough to me - not sure I'd be able to tell much difference between it and Blu ray/HD tbh.

I used it a few times in the past I thought it was a bit gash.

Now that you mention it, I wouldn't recommend it for animation - was watching a futurama DVD on it the other day and it really made those artifacts come alive.

On second thoughts I think I'll just get a decent HDMI upscaling dvd player!

If you import one it probably works out at a similar price to that of a decent upscaler. You can get them for about ?40-?50 but for that price you could probably rule out the word decent.

Xbox on ebay with remote dongle = £40. Then you just need to soft mod it and put xbmc on it, to get a decent upscaling dvd player. Not quite an "off the shelf" solution though.

These beauts have been getting rave reviews everywhere at the moment, one review claimed that Toshiba had shot themselves in the foot releasing some a good player for £60

I think this might be the ticket. Just one thing, a friend had an older model of this Toshiba and it had the most annoying blue LED glaring from the front of the unit which you could only turn off on a one-off basis.... do you know if this unit has fixed this?

I think it only has a small green led that says what video mode it is in a display screen. Download the manual from the toshiba site, that should say whether there is an option to turn off the screen

The PStwo works fine for me but you might want to leave it in interlaced mode. It's crap at converting DVDs to progressive. Any good TV would be better at it.

Also it seems to work with any universal remote, just set it to work a Sony DVD player.
