Is it worth e-mailing Sony customer services and getting a straight answer re. the situation you'd be in if you had a problem with a US machine?

The BC is getting better and better with every firmware update that is released.

Sony Europe were great with my PAL PS3 when it had a nosiy fan, swapped over next day with no problems at all

I ordered my PS3 in March/April - when it emerged that BC would be removed from later versions. It arrived quickly by DHL, marked down to avoid customs charges (I hadn't asked for that).l

          Might I also suggest NCSX?

They have the PS3 on sale for $550USD.

I'm in Australia but a quick calculation for the fastest shipping puts that at about $750AUD for me, or 323~ pounds.

Though the shipping could differ a touch if it's to the UK.

However the models they are selling are definitely the older ones with the EE chip.

Do these definately come from Croydon? So they are in the country already?

Can't say definitely but most of their expensive stuff comes from there. My Phantom Hourglass definitely did, as did GS1 Ltd. Etd.

Might be worth e-mailing them Nick.

Seems they don't. Free international shipping to anywhere except the EEA.

                    (Means Sony are watchin probably)

Hmm, it does say that for the stand alone PS3, no restrictions on the Minna no Golf bundle though (that's the only one I'd looked at)...

think it might be better to buy from ncsx or videogameplus

also is it too good to be true the ps3 is really region free so any title plus future ones will work on any console ?

It's in the licensing agreement to develop for PS3 that games must have no region locking.
